Business Ideas be Dammed.
Is there anything worse than a flood of good business ideas? As the rush of ideas come crashing in, like water we are swallowed up by the waves. Trying to swim faster as they rush in, soon we find ourselves too tired to rise above the tide. So what can one do to actually survive the surge innovation?
Are You Ready?
Prepare for the deluge. As we go through our lives, its important for us to know ourselves well enough to know when these are ideas will come floating in. We should, at this point in our lives, know what stimulates us and when it happens most frequently. We could actually pinpoint the times of day that we are on the receiving end of “the flow” and prepare for those times with a pen and paper.
Grab A PEN!
Successful people never think without a pen in their hand. For me its absolutely impossible to read, listen or think without having something to write with. As ideas come to you, its imperative to jot them down. The good, the bad and the crazy should be captured on the sheet to refer back to. Nothing is too outlandish to be written down.
When the flood of ideas actually subsides, its a good idea to think about which ones you might have some advanced knowledge. Many of the inventions that made millions were actually the ideas, or mistakes, of people who worked in the field. You might isolate the concepts that relate to your career, hobbies or education. While some inventions just spring to mind and are huge successes, many come with some prior information or expertise. These also might prove to be easier for someone with traceable knowledge to sell or produce. Having industry knowledge might not hurt either.
What’s Trending?
Think about trends. What current or future trends are emerging that could give your idea greater cultural pertinence? Ask questions. This is very important. Seeing and acting on a trend that others don’t see has been known to be life changing experiences for many previously unknown inventors. Track your predictions and see how accurate about the future. If you have a history of being accurate you might be on to something big.
It Can’t Be Said Often Enough…
Hang out with smart people. The movers and the shakers are the circle to be in. I try to surround myself with people much smarter than I am. This has allowed me to get many ideas off the ground that would have normally been impossible to float. I learn, grow and expand my horizons with these people. Find your group and offer whatever help you can to others.
Don’t Go it Alone
Many people are great at ideas and can’t execute to save their lives. If that’s you, find a doer and join forces. In case you don’t know, a doer is a person who is always at the center of someone else’s deal. They’re running crazy making things happen for other people. Usually much too busy to get anything done for themselves. You’ll know when you meet them because their eyes will light up when you talk about your project. Ready to hope on board at a moment’s notice, it’s imperative that they have a track record of successes. Or you could hire…
A Doer for Hire
I know lots about being a doer. I am and always have been a doer. I came from a long line of doers. What I did 10 years ago was to make my living helping other people make their dreams come true. Sort of like a doer for hire. If you need help getting your idea off the ground, are serious about success and can make decisions rather quickly, give me a call. I might be able to offer the help you need to make it happen….
