when I say it is imperative to know your market. You should be intimate with them. Know what they love and what really bugs them. Knowing what motivates them to act and what makes them dig in their heels. Who or what do they look up to and what makes them want to scream. It helps to know what they read, how they spend their free time and what they care about.
On an emotional level knowing what they aspire to, what they are afraid of and how they perceive themselves, is valuable information also. Who their friends are and what kinds of things they do together gives more of a picture.
The Insider Scoop
Having the “insider scoop” on the people in your market will allow you to speak to them in a way that cuts through the noise and goes right to their heart. Mainlining information allows you to open up a dialogue that is relevant to the individual and accurately reflects your offerings. Especially because your product or service was developed to meet their specific needs and solves a very real problem in their lives.
Speaking to No One
If you think everyone is your market, then no one is your market. Not figuring out who buys your product or service prevents you from actually speaking directly to your customer. If you can’t speak to them in a language that they can relate to, then your chances of being their number one choice, is slim.
From Ordinary Customer to Client For Life
Here’s another reason to get to know them. People buy from people they like. They want to do business with people they trust and people they feel comfortable with. The more you get to know and understand the people in your market, the better your chance of developing a real relationship. When you are at the real relationship stage, you are doing business on a completely different plane. Usually that is a place that is reserved for “customers for life.”
Imagine if you were able to turn most of your customers into clients for life? What would that mean to you and your business? Learn to speak their language, solve their problems and develop a real relationship with them and you’ve got the makings for the customer for life fueled business that just keeps growing and growing.
