DON’T TELL ME ABOUT THE LABOR PAINS, SHOW ME THE BABY!
May 9, 2011
You gotta love this title.
Never having heard this particular expression, I almost fell off my chair when this came booming from the platform. But in reality…
That’s it. We don’t really want to hear how it was virtually impossible to do this thing or that. We know it was a nightmare to make it happen. We aren’t even interested in how much effort, the level of knowledge needed or how you didn’t get to sleep for days, we want the result of all those efforts. That what we are excited about. So please, don’t tell me about the labor pains, just show me the baby.
There’s a Solution
As business owners we need to be aware of this. We can’t expect our customers or clients to know how much went into what we have done. We need to focus on the solution that our product or service offers to them, the customer. One hundred percent of our energy needs to committed to educating them on why this is the only solution for their particular needs. Not just that it’s the best solution. It’s the best for them, because it was created specifically with them in mind. That’s a huge difference from what your competition is doing.
There’s Power in Your Story
Another vital element is a story. Everyone loves a good story. Entire industries are based on them. The story that you tell should be exciting, entertaining and motivating. It should have a beginning, middle and end. I was here, did this and now I’m here.
The closer the potential customer can relate to the story, the better your chances of turning them into a customer. Think about your story and how it relates to your over all business. Is your story engaging and does it have the WOW factor that fuels your business growth? It should…
How to Know if it’s Working
You know when you have your story working for you when you have people repeating it back to you. People you’ve never met know your story and they have been so motivated by it, they are there at your doorstep. That’s a good story.
No Hiding Allowed
Try working your story to get to that point. Many people try to hide the best elements of their story, when in reality, they should be using those “secrets” to draw people to them. I’m not saying make things up for story value. I’m just saying make the story real, warts and all. Having a story that works will remove you from the competition. They won’t be able to compete because you have a moving, engaging and powerful story and they have a product or service. This is huge.
