We’re all alone in our business. We might have people who work with us, or for us, but in reality we’re running the business single handed. It’s us who makes the decisions, develops the
plans and takes the fall when things don’t go our way. The buck stops at our door and we’re OK with it. After all we like being in charge and we like making every decision. Or do we?
Well I’m going to venture to guess that we don’t like making every decision alone. I know I don’t. I would much rather have someone to bounce ideas off. I would really appreciate having ano
ther person’s input at least some of the time. This is one of the reasons that mastermind groups have become so popular. People bring their questions to the group and get the best the group has to offer. These groups have helped many people take their business to the next level. Of course, they have a set meeting time, and sometimes you just can’t wait until next month for the answer.
Winning Strategy – Partner
I’ve partnered with other business owners who, like me, are experts in one area of business or another. We’re in the same stages of business and we understand what the other is goin
g thorough. We also have the same target audience and help each other make good decisions using the knowledge of consumer behavior.
Battle – Negativity
The other issue that many small business owners have is that they can feel down when things aren’t going their way. They might not see how much they’re accomplished or how far they’ve come in their business. Forever focused on how much there is left to do, they might loose sight of their successes. The bottom line is that many entrepreneurs experience a roller coaster of emo
tion on a regular basis. Working day and night they often feel that they aren’t really getting anywhere quickly.
Winning Strategy – Education and Motivation
I battle this constantly and I think I’ve figured out how to combat it. I resort to education. I listen to CD, watch DVDs or pull up a webinar on the computer. Usually any of these will have exactly what I need to hear to get me going again. They lift me up and place me back on track. The best o
nes are solution based and loaded with answers to an entrepreneur’s most challenging questions.
Battle – Financial Restraints
We lack money and everything costs a lot more than we have. We know we could drive our
business much further with more revenue. We always seem to be settling for what we can afford rather than what we really want. Constantly in the situation of juggling finances, entrepreneurs have a love/hate relationship with money.
Winning Strategy – Trade Wins
Trade services. I know this sounds simple, but I always look to what I could offer to another business and what I might be able to get in exchange. Often you must look beyond the obvious to make the connections that would really create value to both parties. Caution, everyone needs to come out ahead in these trades. If it’s not a win-win, it won’t work for me.
If you need help with any of these challenges and don’t think these solutions are right for you, please consider gettingprofessional consulting help. Yes, it an investment, but it saves you time, opportunity costs and lost traction in the end. Usually a professional can get you going much faster than you can even imagine and make much more money than their fee.
