I invite people to my place, with reckless abandon, and come up with ideas of how to entertain them. Spending weeks planning the event, I start with what I think is cool theme for the evening. Then everything revolves around that theme to make the party fun, exciting and out of the ordinary. I serve my guests something special, set the mood and everyone seems to have a good time.
THERE’S A THEME
Throughout the entire party planning process, I never once think, I’m not going to let my friends know who I really am or that I’m going to to act like I’m someone that I’m not. I don’t assume that I’m going to do anything other than, have fun and encourage my guests to so as well.
SPONTANEOUS, NATURAL BANTER
I never invite people to a party and turn it into a sales pitch. I respect my friends too much for that. Dictating to them isn’t an option of mine either. The conversations at my parties are spontaneous; a natural give and take between the involved parties. Also if someone’s having a bit of a challenge in their life, they talk about it for awhile but they don’t focus completely on the negativity, as if good didn’t exist in the world.
The best thing about my parties, are my friends. They’re smart people, leading dynamic lives and running some very cool businesses. They’re highly educated, well traveled and secure. They’re committed to improving their lives and the lives of others. They arrive at the party ready to have fun, exchange ideas and share their best.
AND SOME FUN
The more I think about this, the more sense it makes to treat your social media site like your home and your visitors like friends. If you think of your posts like gifts to well-respected friends you’re sure to have great results. And just like in real life, every once in a while create something fun, exciting and sure to delight your visitors.
OF COURSE, YOU’RE INVITED…
You’re invited to try this concept with your next few posts. I’d love to know what your thoughts are and how it works for you. If you’ve gotten down this far, I’d also like you to join the party I have going. I’d love to hook up here or on facebook.
I hope this post sheds some light on social media. My goal with it is to help you look at SM a fun, new way. Because just like a party, if it’s not fun, what’s the point?
