WHAT ARE SOLUTIONS TO MAKE A BUSINESS SUCCESSFUL? HERE’S 5 WAYS
September 22, 2011
When people ask me “What are solutions to make a business successful?” Many ideas come to mind but actually they boil down to a few.
THE ESSENCE OF EVERY BUSINESS – RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Whether people want to admit it or not, it’s vital to the long term success of any business. Without a clear and concise strategy to develop relationships even the best business idea will fail.
Everyone has to be of the same mindset and on the same team when it comes to growing a business through relationships. How many times have you frequented a business with a stellar relationship developer and the person next to them a relationship killer? It seems that the other person is determined to undo all the good that the relationship builder just did. Often these people use their job as a way to punish the world for their miserable existence. Clearly these two employees are not playing on the same team. Imagine the power if each was supporting the other AND the customers. The business would be growing exponentially.
FOLLOW-UP MAKES GOOD THINGS HAPPEN
Another of the solutions to make a business successful is follow-up. How many times have we called a business, left a message, waited, called back, and still received no response? It’s happened to me numerous times and I suspect I’m not alone. I’m sure you react the same way I do, by getting frustrated, confused and angry. Then you find someone else.
This lack of follow-up results in a loss in sales for that business. Multiply that by many potential customers, add in subsequent sales that would have resulted from a good initial experience and you have a business that’s losing some big money.
Most people don’t know what lead nurturing means, so let me explain. It’s a predetermined strategy for potential customer contact. This is usually automated and can be extremely successful in turning leads into customers. The actual stats on whenpeople buy are amazing. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t learn too much about this terrific tool to dramatically increase business.
SOCIAL MEDIA HELPS YOU STAY IN FRONT OF YOUR CUSTOMERS
Right now, Social Media is where it’s at. It’s like a gift from heaven. It’s free, easy to use and efficient. The best part is that you are in control of what you send out there. I love that part. Of course this requires some forethought. I recommend that people develop a social media plan that ties in to their overall marketing strategy. It also needs to be an accurate reflection of their values, personality and goals. I believe it’s best when it has a mix or personal and professional and has a flow that’s natural.
MORE THAN ANYTHING BUSINESSES NEED CASH FLOW – WATCH THOSE FREEBIES
Getting paid for your time – This is a hard one for most business owners. We are experts in our field and people know it. What they don’t really want to realize is that we are SELLING our knowledge. Often it is our only product. If we give it away for free often we are not only harming our business but not helping them either.
It takes time to understand the entire scenario before we make recommendations. Sometimes we have to do some research, ask questions and have some background on the situation at hand. In other words, we need to spend some time, then we need to actually think about the best way to address the issue. Look at what the goal of the individual asking for the advice is, then analyze information and come up with the best possible outcome. Next it’s a good idea to develop a strategy on how to deliver the answer to get the best results. I would spend some time analyzing the receiver of the info as well, before coming up with the strategy, so it lands as intended.
Let’s face it, to really give the very best advice, I’d need to spend some energy on this. I really don’t have the kind of time to offer to do it right, for free. I’d rather not offer any information then give underdeveloped answers, gratis. This is an easy way to destroy both your business and a friendship.
My advice is to charge what you need to to give valuable results. Everyone will be much better off.
BONUS TIP – MAYBE THE BEST OF ALL!
In conclusion, when people ask me, “What are solutions to make a business successful?” My best one-line answer is, “Treat it like a business!” You’ll never go wrong when you treat your business, like a business, and never succeed when it’s treated like a hobby.
I hope this helps. Please comment, let me know what you think, become a friend on facebook, re-tweet, join me on Stumble Upon, connect with me on Linked In, and finally on Google +. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for reading.
