THE GOLDEN YEARS ARE LOSING THEIR SPARKLE QUICKLY – GOOD NEWS FOR SMALL BUSINESS
October 16, 2011
TIMES ARE CHANGING – WHICH IS GOOD NEWS FOR SMALL BUSINESS!
Rather than thinking of the days of fun, frolic and freedom that retirement is supposed to be, I’ve adjusted my thinking BIG TIME. Now, everything in my small business is set up to allow me to continue working long into my golden years. My “retirement” will be spent holing up in different parts of the world, as a semi-professional guest. Requiring only the Internet and my computer, I will run my business, and my client’s enterprises, much as I do now, via Skype, email and a digital delivery system. As a Business Consultant, I’m openly leading my clients down the same path and they’re embracing the vision.
IT MIGHT LOOK BLEAK
While the recession, tanking of the market, marches on Wall Street, political messiness, and “weightless” US dollar, are negatives for most of the population, I see them as good news for small business. Too young to actually retire and too old to find another job, people 45+ are streaming into my office for help with their new businesses. At this point, I am now designing a marketing campaign for local Fortune 100 companies that are slated to downsize in 2012.
A NEW IDEA MIGHT HELP
I plan to use the adjustments and strategies that I’ve made in my own business and my client’s small businesses to attract these “new retirees” as clients. The goal is to immediately position their new businesses for manageability, success, and long-term growth. The strategy is to build their new small business with the sale in mind. When they are ready to wind down and have some fun, they sell. With money in their pockets, they can then truly retire.
OR A DIFFERENT STRATEGY
Another strategy is to invest in businesses that offer passive income. I have some ideas for these and am working to make this happen. Usually, I’m bringing my knowledge and expertise in place of cash. This allows me to truly be working in a place of giving to gain. I like this idea because I’m essentially investing in myself and my ability to drive growth. I recommend that my clients seriously consider these opportunities as they are presented.
COULD BE THAT THE BEST IS YET TO COME…
So, yes, the golden years are are losing their sparkle, but in reality, this fading is just forcing us to look at our lives a bit differently. Thank heaven we’re not thinking that we’re going to hit 65 and magically just sit around and eat bon-bons and watch TV for the next 25 years. How boring is that? Come on folks, let’s put on our thinking caps and get ready for the next phase of life. This one is going to be the best yet!
