Most of us strive to be self-employed because we crave the freedom to make our own decisions, our own schedule and call the shots. We have dreams of jumping on a plane at a moment’s notice and leaving capable employees to run our businesses as though we were there. In a way, we have a vision that everyday is Independence Day for entrepreneurs, but its actually quite different. In reality…
Twenty-four hours is nothing in our world. We work night and day to get half as much as we need to get done, accomplished. We work from the time we open our eyes, till we pass out at night. Sometimes we even wake from a sound sleep. While dreaming we find a solutions to a problem we’ve been trying to solve for what seems like forever, but may only be a few days. We work harder than we ever did for our previous companies or bosses.
Whenever we are working we are planning the next move in our strategy. We set aside days to plan, usually putting them off to get work done and meet important deadlines. If the truth be told we plan on the go, more than we sit and actually create plans, we move forward as the opportunities arise. We’re more “fly by the seat of your pants” people then planners. Oh well, it keeps up nimble.
Only as much as we absolutely must. We usually are better at the activities involving “doing” than we are with the book work.
We promote, promote and promote, some more. it’s always great for us. Business is booming and we’re moving forward quickly, but we do have room for a few more clients, customers or buyers.
Running from meeting to meeting, appointment to appointment and deadline to deadline, we are in a constant state of HURRY UP! We get more done in a day than a good employee gets done in a week.
We never have enough time, money and help. We live with that nagging voice that says, “you are crazy, working on useless ideas and completely wasting your time!” No matter how we try to silence that voice it’s still there, however we have learned to ignore it, for the most part…
“Please let this idea work. Please let this be the one I’ve been working for all this time. Please have this one be BIG!” Praying is a big part of the life as an entrepreneur. Some prays are answered and others aren’t. We’re used to it and figure we just have to work harder on those ideas that lack divine intervention.
On days like today, we hide to get a bit more work done. Holidays are the best because the phones don’t ring, everyone’s busy having fun and we can get a bit more time to focus.
And We Do Everything Else
We do it all. After all the buck stops with us!
