AUTHORS WANT TO BE BEST SELLERS – 3 STEPS TO INSTANT BEST SELLER STATUS
November 4, 2012
I’m pleased to announce that my long-time client and good friend, Dean Hyers, reached Best Seller status almost immediately. The book hit the market by storm and shot to the top in three categories in less than two days. Easy, Quick and Efficient, Right?
Not so fast….
To be honest I’d been working on understanding best selling status for quite awhile. In fact, I’d been researching, reading and taking advice from best selling authors since 2009. Investing the time necessary to understand how it happens seems to have paid off for Dean.
Throughout my time digesting the many tips, tricks and tactics that people used to become best selling authors, I noticed that many of the stories were different. However, there were common elements in every single story. Compiling and using this advice to help my client succeed in reaching best selling status, I’ve decided to offer this information for authors who want to be best sellers, also. Here are three steps to instant best seller status.
Step # One: Focus
The most important thing that an author can do is to focus on best seller status. Set the goal early and determine to succeed. It has to be first and foremost in an author’s mind.
The biggest difference I’ve noticed between those who are best selling authors and those who aren’t is this: Best selling authors talk about the status constantly, while other authors talk about their book.
Focus on what the ultimate goal is and success will come. Bottom line…
Step # Two: Don’t Go It Alone
Believe me, Dean Hyers reaching best seller status was the result of targeted efforts of a select group of experts. Nothing was left to chance. Everything was discussed in advance and there were still “last minute” things that needed immediate attention. In fact, we were responding to “real time” challenges close to “round the clock” in an effort to address and adjust every aspect of the process.
Step # Three: Strategy
Even the best group of experts will fail without a well-developed strategy. We were so lucky to work with master strategist, Robert Dempsey of Dempsey Marketing. He was able to pull all our ideas together to give legs to our goals.
Even a loose strategy is better than no strategy at all. However, with that said, I am sure than the immediate rise of this unknown book and author to best selling status was the result of a well-defined and minutely focused strategy.
Beware Of This Mistake That Many New Authors Make….
Do not expect that any book is “good enough” to get any recognition without these three steps. It just doesn’t happen. With 178,000 plus titles being introduced each year to bookstores, the chance of making any impact without a targeted effort is almost impossible. After all, most books only have five weeks to make a huge splash. Unless, a book hits it hard, hits best seller status or has a huge cult following, it’s chances are slim.
I hope these three steps to instant best seller status will help authors who want to be best sellers. I know these steps work, because I just used them successfully.
Know that reaching best seller status is attainable. Robert Dempsey and I will be hosting a webinar in December that will explain in more detail how we helped Dean reach best selling status. Please be on the lookout for more details about the event, they will be posted on this blog.
