ALWAYS BE MARKETING – 5 SIMPLE FIXES TO A COMPLICATED ISSUE
June 20, 2013
WOW, I say to myself, this guy is good.I think he’s over the top when he gets out the shop vac to literally vacuum the bushes around the house.
He’s amazing and so professional that I just have to ask for his card.
“I don’t have any with me. I have 15,000 at home, but I can write my name down on a piece of paper for you.” (Full disclosure – I edited this image by removing his name and part of his number to protect the innocent.)
The guy is so focused on doing a fab job on the houses he works on but he doesn’t know his real job is to always be marketing. In fact, marketing his business doesn’t even cross his mind. My heart breaks for him as he hands me a note book paper.
Honestly, I could triple his business with my hands tied behind my back. The best part is that it would take very little additional effort and cost on his part. Here are the very first things I would do. For more ideas follow this link.
1. Carry business cards (FREE)
2. Business name on truck ($150 and lasts a long, long time)
3. Door knockers in neighborhood ($300 max for design, printing and distribution, this will pay for lots of neighborhoods)
4. A shirt with the business name on it (he’s wearing a shirt anyway…)
5. A sign on the front lawn ($100 reusable on all jobs)
Just one additional house in each neighborhood could more than pay for this and more. Plus, he would earn more money more easily and people would immediately see his value. He would stand out from the competition.
The bottom line is that a week ago my house looked great. One improvement of my neighbor’s house has dramatically, and negatively, impacted my house.
Now, I’m motivated to step up my game and I’m sure I’m not alone. All I have at this point is a slip of paper ripped from a notebook. Anyone who has ever been to my house knows how long that will last…. In fact, I had to search for it to get it scanned.
The moral of the story is ABM. As James Malinchak says Always Be Marketing.
Here are some other solutions for marketing.
